What would you die for?
People may die for a belief, but never for a lie!
I debate issues on several believing and non-believing forums. Someone brought up the subject that they thought Christians were nuts because they were willing to go into countries to minister to the people there about Christ. And knew that they could be killed if caught doing so. So I asked the person asking the question (a non-believer), would you die for something you believe in? Answer: "maybe". So I gave a scenario. Lets say you are with a group of evolutionst scientist in a country were they have a government that allows the military to rule the people. The military finds your group and decide they do not like what your doing. So they tell you to renounce all that you believe in evolution and science and to pledge your belief towards the worship of their ruler or die (there is no guarantee that they won't kill you anyway). What do you do?
They came back with a pretty quick answer: I'd do whatever they told me to do or say. So I ask: So your not willing to die for a subject (evolution) you seem to truly believe in? Answer: no. That kinda puzzled me until I started to think about it.
We will only die for someone we love or something we truly believe in that is in our hearts as true. There is only one case I can think of where someone would give life to save someone they do not even know, is when it is a child. Example: There is a child in the street. You see a car comming and know that if something is not done by you the child will be killed in front of your eyes. Though the child you have never seen, you will have an strong will to save the child. Even if it costs your own life. Why? Because unlike evolution, the child is real. It is something you can see. It's life is in your hands and will die if you do not do something to save it's life.
To be a Christian is to know God and to believe in Him. Though we cannot see him, like the wind, we can feel his presence. Ever feel the love of someone that truly loved you without even saying it? That is what is called the presence of love without the expression of it. Because the Son of God (Jesus) resides in our hearts as Christians, we feel his love even though we cannot see him. We know he is always there. It's like feeling the love of someone even though you maybe on the other side of the world from them. It is not something that can be explained scientifically. But when love is that strong for you and another person, you would be willing to die for them if it would save their life. This is the love that God expressed towards us when he sent his son to die on the cross. Why is this important? Because without this sacrifice, we would not have a salvation. A way to heaven.
Like the child you would save from the car, God sent his Son to save you from eternal damnation in Hell. Which is worse than death. Why make the sacrifice? Why not? There are somethings we do because it is better.
Example: A man and his son and the son's friend go boating. A terrible storm comes up and they cannot out run it. Through trying to out last the storm, the boat is tossed on it's side. Throwing the two boys out in the water. The father is still on the boat. He has a decision to make because he has only one line to throw and save one boy. His son, or his son's friend. He knows that his son has accepted Christ as his savior. He also knows that his friend has not accepted Christ and would spend eternity in hell without Christ. So his decision is to save his son's friend. Upon throwing the line to his friend he screams to his son: I love you son!. By the time he pulls his son's friend to the boat his son perishes in the waves and was never found. The son's friend later got saved and will have eternal life and will be with his friend one day in Heaven. The father made the sacrifice because it was the right thing to do. And one day they will be all in Heaven. But, if the father had choose his son, there would be only a reunion in Heaven of two and not three people. One person had to die so the other could live. This is what God the father did for you when he sent his son to die for you on the cross. He threw a life line to you to save you. While His son died so that you might live.
