Understanding 2 Peter 3:8

Probably one of the most confusing verses in the Bible is 2 Peter 3:8 which says:

2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

This is a comparison between the difference in time passage between where we are and where Heaven is. Being with the Lord is being in Heaven. Many Christians believe that God is outside of time so therefore Heaven is also outside of time. This idea is usually used when a Christian does not understand how eternity works, or how God created things. But does the Bible support that God and Heaven are outside of actual time?

Revelation 8:1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.

You cannot measure time where time does not exist. So 2 Peter 3:8 is a comparison of the time difference between Heaven and where we are at. So to make it more understandable we need to change the equation from comparing days to years to comparing years to years. And since a year contains 365 days we will times both numbers by 365. So what we get is 1 year compared to 365,000 years. What this means is that when 1 year passes on earth 365,000 years passes in Heaven. What that also means is that Heaven is 365,000 times faster than we are.

What questions does this answer?

  1. How God can be everywhere at once.
  2. How angels can be there so quickly to protect us from harm.
  3. How God can create in 6-24 hour days. It’s because God can do 1000 years of work in one 24 hour day because of the time difference between Heaven and earth.
  4. Explains how when we have a near death experience (NDE) that everything seems to go in slow motion. Our bodies prepare for possible death and separation of the soul. This gives us a glimpse into the eternal dimension where time is faster. And as we look into this dimension of faster time, the time where we were in becomes slower in our perception of it. This is why everything looks like it’s going in slow motion.

The Bible is called the living word because no matter how many times you read it you find something new to understand. And the more we understand opens our minds and hearts to know that there is a God and there is none like Him.

To the right (on desk computers) there are 3 videos to watch if you want to understand this better from a scientific viewpoint.

1) Time is not constant. Shows how time is fluid aka in flux not constant.
2) Time Dilation in laymen terms. Explains the 1st video in laymen terms by a retired aerospace engineer.
3) Math of the universe. Shows how the whole universe is like one big math equation.

Because other devices like phones and tablets load the page differently. You may have to scroll down a bit to find these videos.

Ray, come on. Are you not really one of these "bots" that are just letting out a string of words that sounds sort of okay?

thank you Lord that I am Born again.

If you commit the same sins after the new birth that you did prior, does that mean you are a false convert??

Christians: “You reject our God because you want keep sinning!!!!” Also Christians: “I still sin. No one is perfect”. And you wonder why we don’t take you seriously.🤷🏼‍♂️

I’m not sure I’ve had this stuff happen but I’ve probably had.

Im researching my family tree....ever time i find a new surname i get friend suggestions on facebook of people with those name

It's because most people leave their data or wifi on constantly, which means your apps are running, well you gave the apps permission to access your camera, calander ect. I only turn my data on if i go on fakebook or need to google something. The sheep aren't thinking anymore🐑 in the name of convience they let wifi/data run constantly...NOT GOOD! Plus for some STUPID reason most everyone i know uses fakebook messenger to communicate, instead of the regular phone features to text/talk which are a bit more private. Use your heads people it's the apps, why do ypu think they want you to have an app for everything??? Only app i have is walmart and fakebook and the standard ones they make you have, like GOOGLE to be able to use your computer phone you have to have a google account...use your phone as a phone and keep your life private as you can, turn on wifi/data only when needed...why make it easier for them? Use your computer for all the rest. Think of how open people leave themselves gps for driving? No i google the directions and write them down before i go, not to mention the drain on your battery having your location, bluetooth and data on😕 one last thing to help open up some eyes...car insurance will give you a safe driver discount if you leave your data, location, and crap on so they can see your doing the speed limit and stuff to know your a safe driver😉 BAAAAH🐑🐑🐑

Big Brother is here.

Jasmine Georgia

'tis the plan, don't you know?

It’s creepy. No Alexa in our house and cell phones stay out of our bedroom. They can read the words on a book with a satellite, you know they’re watching. Just don’t know who or what they want. (diane)

No Alexia in our home. Commuters shut off.

How do they know?

Bethany Cousins

Who are these two people?

Oh it's scarier, sometimes I get ads of what I'm doing like brushing my teeth and new tooth brush ad comes up.😮

Sometimes I've been thinking about stuff say a song, movie etc something I've forgotten and couldn't remember. Next day low and behold there it is in suggestions......creepy WIFI off!!

Yes! I don’t think it’s funny though.

100%. The wife and I were talking about something a couple weeks ago that I’ve never even heard of, never googled it, all of a sudden the next day I see a ton of adds for it on my phone.

I promise... I can THINK of something and ads will pop up 😂😱😂😱😂

all the time...creepy

yeah they’re definitely listening through devices.

Google reads minds. Yep, there is a conspiracy here. Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates are in on it. Maybe the politicians too! Lol

Amen. We are to share the love of Christ and the Gospel with everyone. ❤

I agree wholeheartedly but aren't we all sinners?

Maybe... Too bad you do none of those things. You're a scumbag liar.

Amen... Thanks Ray

Amen

I’m afraid this isn’t always true. Some people are just too hard-hearted and love sin so much they refuse to listen no matter how loving or kind you are. This obviously doesn’t mean we give up though; we should always keep trying, and then maybe eventually they’ll listen. Remember how Pharaoh refused to listen to Moses when he delivered God’s message to let the Israelites go. Moses tried 10 times (at least), until God said “that is enough.” Now, luckily for us, we get more than 10 chances. But all these chances are not guaranteed; we are guaranteed our first chance, but then our second, third, fourth, fifth, 100th, 1000th chances are only given by the grace of God.

RESPECT

True

I fail soo bad

True but make sure you use some words. All kindness and no words will land your neighbours in a lost eternity!

So true.

Amem!! ❤️🙏🙏

Sin is a false and morally and biologically backward concept.

That is true. Warn them of hell at the same time. Repentance from sin. Sometimes you see when you show that kindness and love, your attacked and mocked even more.

I fail every time

Great word

Love & kindness are good virtues that are inherent in every human & animal. Its not exclusive to a particular Faith & certainly not to the God of Christianity who drowned millions of babies in Genesis chapter 7.

Amen

that is a condescending statement. According to you, we are all sinners. How about you clothe yourself in sound arguments and statements you can back up with facts?

I admit, that can be a challenge on some days

Been struggling with this one for sure

Unbelievers hate God.

God hates everyone who is not a believer in Yeshua, and they will face God's hatred on the day of judgement. Psalm 5:4-5

To share the infinite and unimaginable love of God for sinners without also sharing His infinite and unimaginable hatred for sinners is to share half of the Gospel. Half of the gospel is not the gospel at all, but is only a clumsy mishmash of heretical feel-goodism in which most can never understand the immense sacrifice of Yeshua on the cross and the absolute fury from the Father that fell upon Yeshua because of us. To truly teach what God's love has saved us from, we must also teach that the cross is a horrific example of God's fury that awaits anyone who rejects salvation through Yeshua

Green Iguana

The following All By Design column by Dr. Jonathan O’Quinn appeared in Creation Matters, Vol. 22, No. 1, January/February 2017.

Throughout nature we can see everywhere that plants and animals seem to be perfectly designed for the habitats in which they live. In May of 2011, while my wife and I were visiting the U.S. Virgin Islands, I snapped this picture of a green iguana sunning itself one morning. These large lizards climb up into the tops of the native palm trees each morning to warm themselves before climbing back down to start the day’s search for food.

It was only several years later, while studying this photograph, that I realized how perfectly designed these lizards are for their habitat. Note how the pale, greenish-brown body color nearly matches the color of the trunk and branches of the tree. Notice, too, how the dorsal frills on the neck and back resemble the “spikey” appearance of the palm fronds. Finally, see how the darker bands of color on the tail match the banding patterns of darker leaves against the lighter sky.

In fact, when iguanas are at rest, they are extremely difficult to see. Now ask yourself: how could random processes, that are claimed to be responsible for evolution, have enabled the appearance of these particular physical characteristics which would assist the lizards in avoiding predators? Even if the iguanas themselves were in some way cognizant of such a need, how could chance have produced these features? Oh, okay—they couldn’t. Well, there goes the theory of evolution!

Should pornography be legal in the United States?

Comment on Facebook

Yes. It destroys everything. Marriage. Relationship. And a covenant with your spouse and the Father! If I hate one and only one thing on this earth, this is it.

Should be legal anywhere. WWJD

Putting aside the Spiritual aspect of the corrosion that pornography causes of the soul. Pornography dissolves the positive side of Love, compassion and humanity and turns the objects of lust into a twisted fantasy, denigrating them to mere objects stripping them of value erasing the facts that they are flesh and blood with hopes and dreams.

It should be banned. I don’t even think they should only allow adults on there but ban it all together. It does just as much harm as drugs. Governments ban porn in many countries and the west should follow.

In a perfect world it should be illegal. In the real world it will creep in wherever it is desired. (diane)

Clearly it's not properly regulated when legal. Ban it, narrow down the real threats

I highly recommend everyone watch The Kinsey Syndrome Documentary on YouTube. VERY eye opening

Drugs are illegal and how is that working? Good Fight Ministries you guys do amazing works dealing with pop culture and exposing darkness. I thank you for your major influence in my life, new walk. Making it illegal will only do more harm and make it more underground. Keeping our kids away from it and continuing to work on the changing the hearts of people close to us with prayer and scripture is what we do. Young men and women need to be able to approach people they trust and talk about things. The devils power is in secrets, lies and isolation. It's a multi billion dollar industry. There is no worldly solution to rescue and repair all the lives destroyed by it. Lean hard in your faith and saviour, plant seeds, and be the example and pray. Good fight tough question. Thank you for all that you do!

Sick woman.

Outlawing it will result in an explosion of interest in it. You can't stop something by banning it. For example - most mass shootings occur in gun free zones. Prohibition saw an explosion of crime of all kinds, including alcohol consumption. Jesus never said, "Force them to accept righteousness." HE has Paul tell us we are to persuade people. You have no right to enforce your beliefs on anyone else. No matter how good they may be.

No, it shouldn’t be legal. I pray that their computer servers burn! I pray that all of their electronic equipment burns to the ground!

I personally don't think it should be illegal. That's not to say it's not immoral. It is. However, if Christians ban everything that they think is immoral, we'd be living like the Puritans in pseudo theocracy in which we depend on fallible men to be the judge, jurors, and interpreters of hundreds of God's laws. I mean, if we look at a woman with lust, we have committed adultery. Therefore, Instagram should be banned. Any social media that allows pictures to be posted for that matter. Maybe pictures of attractive people should be banned. If you go down this slippery slope, our society might end up like the Muslims, requiring women to be completely covered. As a Christian, I also believe that we have the freedom to practice our religion the way each of us best interprets it. Once again, I'm not saying that all interpretations are valid. However, there was a time when religious authority was centralized and that wasn't a utopia either. I say, if consenting adults want to make porn, and another adult freely chooses to watch it, that should be legal. They're only hurting themselves. Now, if they display it to others in public, like children, then they are violating someone else's negative rights. Then that should be illegal and I believe it already is. If we were to ban everything that offends us as Christians we'd be just like the extreme leftists or communists that demand "safe spaces" whenever a controversial word is uttered. Say goodbye to comedy, art, and romance. And no, I'm not saying that porn is art or romance. But it wasn't that long ago that it was considered to be sexy for women to show their ankles with a poodle skirt. It's very subjective. I don't want the government to make those decisions for us. We as Christians should be strong enough to make them ourselves or with the help of the church if we're struggling.

No, pornography should be illegal in The United States, it is the root cause of violence, especially toward women, and complete lack of morals, causing many different crimes.

If it was illegal, what should be the consequence?

Ever heard of the 1st amendment? it already is legal.

No. there is alot of human trafficking involved in pornography and it should be illegal. My opinion is that it should be illegal.

"A wise king scatters the wicked, and brings the threshing wheel over them." Proverbs 20:26

Praying for eyes to be open

It's already legal. They sell it in stores!!! ;0)

Porn "stars" are slaves not only to sin, but to the pimps filming and abusing them.

Pornography destroys marriages. And now you just go on a computer not go to 7 eleven and ask for it and be embarrassed

Legal? USA is a big Whore house. It produces more porn movies than any other country. Porn is everywhere: movies, soaps, advertising, billboards, flyers, sports, schools, jails, etc. It is either "staying in the jungle or back to God"!

Yes it should be illegal.. it at least sends a message in morality... but the spirit of the living God in the heart of man makes it undesirable!!!

Plants in Motion

The following Math Matters column by CRS president Dr. Don DeYoung appeared in Creation Matters Vol. 21, No. 6, November/December 2019.

A dull, boring event is sometimes likened to watching grass grow. Many plants, however, do in fact display remarkable activity. For example, the tropical touch-me-not plant (Mimosa pudica) folds and droops its compound leaves within seconds of a touch. And underwater bladderworts (genus Ultricularia) close a tissue trapdoor on mosquito lava in just milliseconds.

In spring 2018, I monitored the growth of a Midwest clementis flower vine. During 12 hours of daylight the vines grew an average of 3.5 cm in length, which is nearly three millimeters per hour. Assuming a plant cell size of 50 microns, and a vine diameter of two millimeters, each clementis vine builds complex cells at the rate of twelve cells per second. With more than a trillion atoms in each cell, there is frenzied activity in plant growth on the nano scale.

The Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) capture mechanism is also a standout for plant motion. Its leaves capture prey in a process called snap-buckling, similar to the “rubber popper” toys that launch themselves into the air. The flytrap leaves close by flexing themselves quickly from a convex shape to concave in a fraction of a second.

The current plant speed record may be held by the dwarf mistletoe (Arceuthobium americanum). This plant explosively releases seeds through the air on a microsecond timescale.

Those of us who mow lawns can appreciate the slow growth of grass. However, the botanical world has a host of plants that rapidly catapult, kick, jump, and snap.
